According to details, the Ministry of Interior today turned down the summary forwarded by the Sindh government, curtailing Rangers powers and subjecting them to CM’s nod in certain cases.

The federation, under Articles 148 and 149 of the Constitution, restored Rangers’ policing powers, which the paramilitary force exercised before the Sindh Assembly passed a resolution.

Earlier on December 16, Sindh Assembly passed the resolution extending policing powers to Rangers along with certain conditions, including a prerequisite approval from a senior government functionary for paramilitary force to conduct any raid of political nature.

Passed after enormous pressure from almost all corners, the resolution extended special powers for a period of 12 months.
